R.J. Smith rushed for 246 yards and four touchdowns, as Tompkins cruised to a 70-7 victory over the Alvin Yellowjackets Friday night at AISD Memorial Stadium.

Improving to 3-0 for the season, the Falcons are off to their best start in school history, while Alvin fell to 0-3.

Despite having a promising drive derailed by a fumble deep in Alvin territory on their opening possession, Smith ripped off a 31-yard trip to the end zone for the game’s initial tallies with 7:03 left in the first period.

Jacinto Esteban booted the extra point through the uprights for a 7-0 Falcons’ lead.

After Smith exploded for a 66-yard TD to make it 14-0 at the end of the quarter, Alvin’s James Smith recovered a muffed punt at the Tompkins’ 34-yard line early in the second.

However, the Falcons’ defense quickly forced Alvin to go three-and-out, paving the way for R.J. Smith to add his third rushing TD on a 63-yard ramble with 8:56 remaining before intermission.

Reserve signal caller Austin Bell then entered the contest for the Falcons to hit Taurean Muhammad on a 41-yard double reverse fling for a 28-0 advantage, while Jalen Milroe hit Bell from 39 yards out.

Following Smith’s three-yard run, the junior speedster turned a short screen toss from Milroe into a 37-yard TD reception.

While Isreal Enriquez’s 63- yard scoring run finally got the Jackets on the board on the last play of the first half for a 49-7 affair, Ryan Schmidt went in from a yard out to cap a three-play, 55-yard march for Tompkins on the third’s quarter’s first series.

Linemen Gage Garcia and Julio Montoya joined James Smith with fumble recoveries for Alvin on defense.
