Those worries were put to rest on Saturday as the Rams beat the Yellowjackets 73-7 at Legacy Stadium on Saturday.
The Rams (3-1) lost the season opener to Conroe, 37-22, but have put up big numbers since then by scoring 185 points in three games.
“Once we got past that first game, we kind of got it rolling,” Mayde Creek coach Mike Rabe said. “We just have to keep getting better every week. Our kids have done a really good job in practice; their practice habits have gotten better.”
On the opening kickoff, Jalon Strong broke loose for a 79-yard Creek touchdown.
Strong followed up the return with a another score on a 39-yard pass from Jacoby Wilson.
With 7:33 remaining in the first quarter, the Ram defense got in on the scoring with a Mike Abiola fumble recovery from a yard out.
A few plays later, Demetrius LeDet snared a nine-yard pass from Jacoby Wilson for a TD reception.
Midway through the second quarter, L’Den Skinner was on the receiving end of a 65-yard TD fling from Wilson.
Later in the period, Trevion Goins added another Creek TD on a 14-yard run and Strong picked up his third touchdown on a 26-yard strike from Wilson for a 40-0 lead at halftime.
Alvin running back James Smith rambled 55 yards for the only Jacket touchdown, which came early in the fourth quarter.
Aleric Hernandez booted the extra point through the uprights. Smith rushed for 66 yards on 13 carries to lead the Jackets offensively.
