The co-hosting Alvin High School powerlifting teams competed in the sixth annual Yellowjacket Classic on Jan. 17 in Alvin.

The varsity girls captured top honors in their division, while the AHS boys claimed runner-up in their division.

First places for the Lady Yellowjackets went to Amanda Barrera in the 105 weight class, Nancy Meza in the 132 weight class, Karina Macias in the 165 weight class, Sarah Green in the 220 weight class and Trinity Ruiz in the 259 weight class.

The first places for the Yellowjackets included Efren Ramirez in the 148 weight class and David Trevino in the 275 class.

Second places on the girls’ side included Andrea Recendez in the 105 class, Camila Recendez in the 148 class, Stevie Goodman in the 198 class and Belen Almader in the 259+ class.

Mateo Gallegos (123 class) joined Richardo Alaniz (165 class) and Charlie Fox (242 class) with second places for Alvin on the boys’ side.

Fourth places went to Miguel Aleman (boys’ 148 class), Hannah Casas (girls’ 132 class) and Eliana Hernandez (259 class). Fifth places included Karina Recendez (girls’ 132 class) and Kimberly Benda (girls’ 181 class).

The AHS powerlifting teams next compete at the Santa Fe meet on Saturday.

Alvin gymnastic girls place third at Rudder - The AHS Girls turned in a third place team performance at the Rudder meet on Jan. 17 behind first place Colleg Station and runner-up Rudder.

Top performances for Alvin included Autumn Hodges with a nine place on balance beam and a ninth place on all-around, while senior Johnna Jackson was 10th in the all-around.
