The Alvin Lady Yellowjackets captured the softball tourney crown at the NFCA Texas High School Lead-off Classic, which was hosted by Bryan and College Station last weekend.
Alvin edged Brazoswood by a 3-1 count in the championship game Saturday evening to complete a six-game sweep of three-day tourney, which featured a 64-team field. Jodie Aguirre picked up the win in the circle with Victoria Valdez, Reagan Jones and Khori Bolton driving in the runs.
Outscoring their opposition by a staggering 41-5 margin during the three-day tournament, the Lady Jackets also posted victories over Denison (7-0), Boerne (4-0), Leander (7-3), College Station (7-0) and Fort Bend Christian (13-1).
Aguirre also fanned 11 in the tourney opener against Denison, while other Alvin NFCA highlights included Valdez with a two-run homer against Leander, Kaitlyn Kincaide with a three-run inside the park homer against College Station and Mary Pourcio and Jordon Frederic with three RBI’s apiece against FBC.
