A total of 13 area players were named to the All-District 23-6A Volleyball team for the bi-district finalists Alvin Lady Yellowjackets and Shadow Creek Lady Sharks.
Junior outside hitter Ana Garza and senior middle blocker Addison Hansen both earned first team nods for Alvin, as did the Lady Shark trio of senior middle blocker Deja Benjamin, sophomore outside hitter Dominique Phills and senior outside hitter Aria Rideaux.
Shadow Creek freshman middle blocker Mackenzie Collins was also tabbed as the league’s newcomer of the year.
Garza paced Alvin with 382 kills, 387 digs, 46 blocks and 27 aces, while Hansen provided 198 kills, 76 blocks and 47 digs.
Benjamin delivered 263 kills, 100 blocks, 39 digs and 29 aces for the Lady Sharks, while Phills added 364 kills, 140 digs, 53 blocks and 24 aces and Rideaux chipped in 276 kills, 116 digs, 32 blocks and 38 aces.
Collins led the team in blocks with 101 and ranked second with 277 kills.
Second team picks included outside hitter Alana Burks and libero Ella Hestand for Shadow Creek, while the Lady Jacket sophomore duo of middle blocker Wylie Singleton and setter Korrigan Wright also gained second team berths.
Burks delivered 174 kills, 136 digs and 25 blocks and Hestand led the Lady Shark defense with 321 digs and ranked second on the team with 43 aces.
Singleton drilled 156 kills, 65 digs and 60 digs for the Lady Jackets and Wright contributed 513 assists, 184 digs and 38 aces.
Honorable mention status went to outside hitter Mackeznie Strban and setter Janey Anderson for Alvin and setter Sarah Du for Shadow Creek.
Strban ranked second in kills for Alvin at 213, while adding 365 digs, 47 aces and 24 blocks. Du dished out 618 assists and 116 digs for the Lady Sharks and Anderson collected 441 assists and 117 digs for the Lady Jackets.
Shadow Creek finished as the district third seed at 26-18 and Alvin was fourth at 18-23.
Regional semifinalist Dawson dominated the individual awards with Kamryn Scroggins earned most valuable player honors and Kylie Nance claiming the top offensive award. Alana Torres also shared the defensive player award.
The Lady Eagle trio of Sydney Alexader, Patience Lewis and Bryce Ramsey were named to the first team, as well.
Manvel’s Aryn Johnson named to Southland All-Conference team - Former Manvel Lady Maverick standout Aryn Johnson was named to the All-Southland Conference’s Volleyball Second team.
Johnson led the Cowgirls in kills (331) and service aces (33). The freshman outside hitter’s 30 aces rank her second and her kills ranked her fifth in the in SLC matches. She is also second on the team with 180 digs.
